Introduction to Working with Clay

Introduction to Working with Clay

Introduction to Working with Clay is an introductory class for Grades 6-8 to clay, ceramics, and glaze. Students learn basic hand building skills in the coil and slab methods, including basic scoring and slipping, additive and subtractive designing, and drying times.

After a demonstration and examples, students sketch an idea for their project, roll slabs for assembling of projects, and create two finished forms during the class. In the last few sessions, students are introduced to glazing and will glaze their final projects.
